Objective
To design a deck box for trading card games that could securely hold a commander sized deck and be instantly recognized as the "Mana Vault" from Magic The Gathering.
Most deck boxes currently available are mechanically and aesthetically simple, so the goal was to design a deck box that deliberately stood out for carrying a signature deck.Â
Solution
Solution
The the deck box was designed with a core magnetic deck box, and a outer shell for aesthetics segmented into pieces to eliminate the need for supports when 3D Printing. The design of the outer shell underwent several revisions after receiving feedback from Magic players on it's aesthetics.

The design accomplished both goals, that is:
After showing the deck box to several MTG players, it was instantly recognized as Mana Vault and received positive feedback.
The deck box securely holders a full commander deck, even when jostled, and is easy to use.
But for opportunities to improve in the future,
Assembling the deck box was a challenge because of the need to manually align the segmented outer shell
The magnets do not strongly resist movement along their long edge
